Rewind: Solo Exhibition by Yervant Hawarian

In Rewind, Yervant Hawarian returns to his roots: the hand-painted movie posters of 1950s-90s Lebanon that once animated Beirut’s streets and distilled a nation’s cinematic dreams. Working on linen, he meticulously re-creates and re-imagines these visual artifacts, folding history into painterly form.

Each composition captures a moment of cinema, public spectacle and private memory, layered with the artist’s vivid chromatic language and awareness of craft. These works move beyond nostalgic replication. They operate as cultural objects, merging commercial ephemera with fine-art intention, renewing a visual vocabulary that had been all but erased.

Presented in collaboration with the Ramzi and Saeda Dalloul Art Foundation, Rewind places Hawarian’s posters within Lebanon’s visual heritage and positions them in dialogue with contemporary art practice. The exhibition unfolds as both celebration and critique. We celebrate the hand-painted poster’s rich legacy. We critique what has been lost and what requires renewal.

Alongside the exhibition, DAC is hosting a series of panel discussions that investigate the intersections of design, memory, identity and the poster’s afterlife in visual culture. These conversations enable a deeper encounter with the works, prompting audiences to consider how images travel, transform and endure.

All works shown are available for acquisition through DAC, with additional pieces from the series presented digitally for private viewing and selection.
