Rewind Transports Audiences to the Golden Age of Lebanon’s Cinema

The opening of Rewind brought a gentle, heartfelt energy to DAC last night. Guests moved through the space with an easy warmth, stopping in front of Yervant Hawarian’s hand-painted posters to share stories, recall scenes, and compare memories of the films that shaped entire generations.

Conversations sparked naturally. A title on the wall became a reminder of a childhood outing; a brushstroke brought back the front of an old cinema; a color triggered a moment long forgotten. The exhibition’s spirit built on Lebanon’s golden era of movie-going, seemed to connect everyone in the room.

Hawarian spent the evening moving quietly among visitors, witnessing his posters come to life again in Beirut. People pointed, smiled, and exchanged memories with him and with each other, giving the works the communal presence they once held across the city’s streets.

The atmosphere was warm, sincere, and full of familiarity. It was less an opening and more a shared return to a visual culture that shaped how Beirut once saw itself.

Rewind remains on view at DAC until 3 January 2026. We look forward to welcoming more visitors to experience the exhibition and the conversations it continues to inspire.
